The power of connection.

While walking my dog the other morning I turned my head and caught a husband and wife kissing each other goodbye before leaving for work. By happenstance, my eyes met their kiss. It was an intimate moment for the three of us. I saw them kissing, they knew that I saw, and I knew that they knew. We all were in on it.

What transpired next really stayed with me. First, acknowledging what had happened, we nodded; they at me and me at them. Then the husband, before getting into his car, waved at me, and then his wife did the same thing. I, of course, waved back. It got me thinking about how much we all need connection. True, the man and his wife needed to connect before going their separate ways. But I think that, because of what had happened and the kind of people they were, they needed to connect with me, too. Because I had witnessed a private moment between them they wanted to invite me in.

I was very glad they did. I felt a quiet joy well up from within. I can’t say why, other than that I realized, once again, how powerful connection truly is. In some way, these two people helped me to better know who I am in relation to everything else.
